Three Tips to Make It to the Top from a Real Life CEO Greg Lindberg

Greg Lindberg is the CEO of a regional telecommunications company, but he was not always the man in charge. After college, he started out as an account assistant, and  had to move up the corporate ranks just like most successful businessmen. It wasn’t always easy, but Greg Lindberg is now a CEO; living the life he always wanted. If you are just starting out, or  are frustrated with your current career, it doesn’t have to be like this forever. Here are several tips:

Be Broad in Your Understanding of the Company: A good CEO and overall leader not only knows his or her job,but everyone’s job in the company, too.  As you’re starting out, don’t be afraid to take on new responsibilities,or volunteer for projects even if it requires working longer hours. Your investment will be well worth it when a new position opens.

Be Self-Aware: As a CEO, Greg Lindberg understands that it’s not just how you see yourself, but how others see you as well. Do managers and co-workers look at you favorably? If not, consider an image make-over.   How you carry yourself is key, so that others will view you as a professional and a good decision-maker.

Be Forward-Thinking: Most CEOs are technologically savvy and willing to learn new skills and practices that will further their ability to lead. CEOs must be up-to-speed on the latest technology in order to make smart business decisions. Remember, CEOs should know what others do – that includes the CIO. A good CEO isn’t afraid to admit when he or she doesn’t know something, but will make sure they learn, fast.. In fact, a good CEO is always looking for tomorrow’s big idea, today.
